This color print is a calendar blotter for April 1939, issued as an advertisement for the First National Bank of Boston. Its caption refers to the founding of the city's first glass works in 1787, which the bank used to link its name to Boston's early industry. The Boston Glass Manufactory, which began production in the late 1780s, made flint glass as the city was still rebuilding its commercial base after the Revolution. Blotters like this sat on desks for a month at a time, so the design also served as a reminder of local history.
