A Dutch publication called *De Hollandsche Revue* is advertised in this color lithograph poster, which shows the bold, flat graphic style that spread through European cities in the years before the First World War. It was printed in Amsterdam by a firm carrying the name of Alois Senefelder, the Bavarian who invented lithography in the 1790s. The artist, Johann Georg van Caspel, worked within a Dutch poster tradition that drew on French models while developing its own look. Posters like this were pasted on street walls to catch passersby, so they were designed to be taken in at a glance.
