Sepia toning, a full moustache, and a frock coat with a walking cane set this portrait apart, and it is filed under Abraham Lincoln. The details given do not confirm that identification, however. Lincoln was clean-shaven until late 1860 and wore a beard afterward, so a moustache alone would not match his best-known likenesses. Frock coats and canes were common in portraits of the mid-to-late 19th century, when sepia-toned photographs were widely made, so the clothing dates the picture more reliably than it identifies the sitter.
