Dressed in high-collared period clothing, the couple in this card are posed close together in the sentimental style that made Valentine's Day postcards popular in the early twentieth century. Cards like this one were often printed in large runs and sent between sweethearts, friends and relatives, with the tender imagery doing much of the speaking when a few words were all the sender had room for. The courting theme drew on Victorian habits of romantic gesture, where a card could carry a flirtation or a declaration without either person saying it aloud. Look closely at the fashions and studio setting, which help date the card and show how commercial printers borrowed from older portrait conventions.
