A woodcut broadside titled *Our country . . . home industry* brings together four national figures: John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, Andrew Jackson, and William Coleman, a New York newspaper editor, with the White House included as the prize in view. The 1824 presidential election produced no majority winner, so the House of Representatives chose Adams in 1825. The title points to the protective tariff, which Clay promoted as part of his American System and which divided voters in manufacturing regions. Cheap printed sheets like this one were a common way to rally those voters during campaigns.
