Cormons is a small wine town in the Collio hills of northeastern Italy, but the caption on this glass negative places it in Austria, which reflects the borders of its era. Before 1918 the town belonged to the Austrian crownland of Görz and Gradisca. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, produced and captioned negatives like this one, and the title comes from its unverified data. The record gives no date, but the glass plate format points to the early decades of the century, when such negatives were common in news work.
