Del Pratt, a second baseman for the St. Louis team in the American League, is the subject of this glass negative from the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of the day's news and personalities. The caption card reads "Pratt, St. L. Am.," and the Society for American Baseball Research's Pictorial History Committee confirmed the identification and date in 2006. Pratt played for St. Louis in the 1910s, when the club was often called the Browns, and he was known for his hitting and his steady play at second base. Bain's studio work from these years gives a useful record of how players were posed and presented to the public.
