The title names a single person, W.H. Doak, though the Library of Congress notes that this label comes from unverified data on the original negative or caption card, so the identification is not confirmed. The glass negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers from the early 1900s into the 1920s. Its glass plates, many of them portraits of public figures and scenes from current events, record the look of press photography before film and wire transmission became routine. Because the negative is undated, its exact year would have to be found through the caption or the agency's records.
