The record gives this glass negative only the name "Telmanyi," a title the Bain News Service wrote on its negatives or caption cards and that the Library of Congress has not verified. The surname most likely refers to Emil Telmányi, the Hungarian-born violinist who performed in Europe and America in the early twentieth century, but the record does not confirm that the sitter is him. Bain's New York staff worked from about 1900 to 1925, producing portraits and news pictures for newspapers, and their small glass plates were often captioned loosely or not at all. Treat the identification as a lead to check rather than a settled fact.
