The record names Leginska, which refers to Ethel Leginska, the English-born pianist who built a concert career in the United States in the early twentieth century and later became a conductor, an unusual path for a woman at the time. The record gives no date, but the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with photographs, produced its glass negatives mainly in the first quarter of the twentieth century, which places this sitting in an era of concert tours and strong press interest in musicians. Because the title comes from unverified caption data, the identification is best treated as a working attribution.
