Dig in" turns the language of the trenches into a call to the home front, asking buyers to take up Liberty Loan bonds on an easy payment coupon plan. The poster dates to 1917, the year the United States entered the First World War and the Treasury began selling Liberty Loans to finance the effort. Its color lithograph is copyrighted by H.F. Rawll of New York, and it belongs to a large body of American war posters that linked financial support to the labor and sacrifice of ordinary citizens. The line "Dig to-day, reap tomorrow" presents a bond purchase as a patient investment that would pay off later.
