The title names a showman, Jas. R. Waite, and advertises his "attractions," a term that in the late 1890s usually meant a lineup of acts for a traveling show or variety stage. The sheet was printed in Buffalo, New York, by the Courier Litho. Co. around 1899, when color lithography was the main way to put large, eye-catching bills in front of crowds. Buffalo had a busy commercial printing trade at the time, and its shops turned out many show posters like this one, which together offer a useful picture of how entertainers pitched themselves to audiences. Its place on a board of dog pictures suggests that dogs may have been among the acts on offer.
