Labeled as a Republican political convention photograph from 1922, this Underwood & Underwood print carries a title naming Theodore Roosevelt, though the dates in the record do not match his life, since he died in January 1919. Underwood & Underwood was a commercial news photo firm whose prints circulated widely in the early twentieth century, and its copyright mark places the image in that trade. Roosevelt, president from 1901 to 1909 and later the Progressive Party's 1912 candidate, remained a powerful name in Republican circles, so a convention photograph tied to him would have carried weight. The identification is unverified and should be read as provisional.
