Thirteen men performing acrobatics in one crowded arrangement set this chromolithograph apart from many circus posters, which often centered a single star performer. Printed in Detroit by the Calvert Lithographing Company around 1891 and cataloged as its No. 64, it belongs to a busy trade in colorful advertising sheets that traveling shows pasted on fences, walls and storefronts ahead of their arrival. Chromolithography built up color through successive stone or plate impressions, which gave these bills their bright, saturated look. The Library of Congress supplied the descriptive title because the print itself carries none.
