Few yachts of the 1880s drew as much public attention as the steam yacht *Namouna*, shown here in a Currier & Ives print from about 1882. The title credits its owner, James Gordon Bennett, the publisher of the *New York Herald*, who was known for his enthusiasm for ocean racing and for cruising his vessels between New York and European waters. Currier & Ives, the New York firm famous for popular lithographs of ships, trains and national life, produced many such prints for a public eager to see the new steam-powered pleasure craft of the wealthy.
