Most fashion pictures of 1950 show models facing the camera, so this back view stands out. Two models kneel while wearing swim fins, and a third sits nearby, with the swimsuits and the fins as the main subjects. Toni Frissell made the photograph for *Harper's Bazaar*, which published it in January 1950, when the magazine was a leading showcase for American sportswear and resort fashion. The fins suggest the postwar fascination with leisure, water sports and seaside vacations. The picture belongs to Frissell's larger body of fashion work, in which she often used outdoor settings and natural poses.
