Workers are shown assembling the roof framework of a house in the Philippines in this stereograph, dated around 1912. Keystone View Company issued stereo cards like this for home viewers, and its scenes from the Philippines, then an American colonial possession, offered a look at local building methods. The caption card's subject tags include typhoons, which suggests why roof framing mattered: in a storm-prone climate, the way a roof was joined and anchored was central to whether a house held up.
