Little is recorded about the people in this 1921 view, and the title notes that the caption has rubbed off the glass negative, so their identities and the building's name remain unknown. The plate belongs to the National Photo Company Collection, the commercial archive of a Washington, D.C. studio that documented city life, people and institutions in the early twentieth century. Glass negatives like this one were the standard medium of the period, and the streaks and blemishes noted in the record are typical of their aging coatings. Together they give a glimpse of everyday street life and office settings in the years after the First World War.
