Rather than showing the battlefield, this 1919 German poster asks the public to support the Kriegsgefangenenhilfe, a relief effort for soldiers and civilians held as prisoners abroad. Its title names the German Relief Organization for War and Civilian Prisoners. The appeal reflects a moment when the armistice of November 1918 had ended the fighting, but many prisoners were still held in foreign camps, and their release dragged on for months. Relief groups collected money and sent food and clothing parcels to the camps, so the poster is best read as wartime propaganda aimed at civilians asked to give to the prisoners' cause.
