Among the plates of Charles William King's study of ancient engraved stones, this woodcut shows a talisman of the kind linked to Gnostic groups in the early centuries of the Christian era. Such objects often combined animal and human figures with inscribed words meant to carry protective power. The print appears as Fig. 6 R in *The Gnostics and Their Remains*, dated 1887, and King's illustrations let readers compare amulets and gems that most of them would never see in person. The caption information comes from an old card and has not been verified, so details about the original object should be checked against the book.
