This 1917 lithograph poster, titled "Your work means victory - build another one," was issued by the Publications Section of the United States Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation in Philadelphia. The design is credited to Fred J. Hoertz of the Ketterlinus firm, a Philadelphia printing house, and it earned an honorable mention in the citizens class of a poster contest run by The New York Sun. Its message was aimed at workers in shipyards and industry during the First World War, when the United States was racing to replace merchant ships lost to German submarine attacks. The Emergency Fleet Corporation's campaign drew heavily on industrial imagery such as smokestacks and shipbuilding, and this poster reflects that emphasis on the home front's role in the war effort.
