The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption information the Bain News Service wrote on its negatives, which the Library of Congress notes has not been independently verified. The Bain agency supplied photographs of current events to American newspapers and magazines, and its European military subjects often reached readers as quick news pictures during the years around the First World War. Field guns like the one shown were mobile artillery pieces that supported infantry in the field, so the image is useful for seeing how such weapons were positioned and operated.
