Few things in early cinema were promoted as loudly as this poster, which bills its films as "the greatest battle in the history of pugilism." The bout pitted lightweight champion Ad Wolgast against Battling Nelson, and the film of it was sold to exhibitors as a way to relive a prizefight without attending one. Around the 1910s, fight films drew large crowds, and many cities and states restricted or banned their screening because of concerns about violence and gambling. The printer's credit to Riverside Printing Co. in Milwaukee points to the regional touring circuit that carried such attractions to small-town theaters.
