A painting by the eighteenth-century Mexican artist Miguel Cabrera gives this image its subject: the Queen of Heaven, Regina Coeli, surrounded by angels, saints and Jesuit attendants. The painting hangs in the Church of San Francisco Xavier at Tepotzotlán, a former Jesuit complex northwest of Mexico City known for its Baroque interiors. The photograph was made in Mexico City by a photographer named Kahlo, who recorded the painting as a reproducible image. The caption card gives no date, so the year of the photograph is uncertain.
