Ray Eames's "Crosspatch," dated 1945, is a textile design drawing in color, a working plan for a printed fabric rather than a finished piece of cloth. Eames worked on textiles alongside her husband, Charles, during the years when they were developing their furniture and design practice, and her fabric patterns of this period often used simple geometric or abstract motifs suited to modern interiors. The drawing belongs to the Library of Congress's Prints and Photographs Division, which holds a large body of mid-century design material. Its title suggests a playful, angular pattern, the kind of graphic experiment that marked American design in the years just after World War II.
