Several views of a molded plywood chair fill this India ink drawing, which dates to roughly 1945 to 1950, when Charles and Ray Eames were developing bent-plywood seating. Their work drew on wartime advances in molding wood, and in 1946 their designs won a Museum of Modern Art competition for low-cost furniture. The sketches show how a single form was studied from different angles while the design was still being refined. The record identifies the subject as Eames chairs but does not name the specific model.
