A portrait of a man identified in the record as Mr. Bela Orme, a name the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve but that the library has not independently verified. The glass plate dates from about 1922, when the Washington, D.C., studio was producing large numbers of portraits and views on glass negatives of this size. Streaks and blemishes mark the image, the result of the emulsion coating deteriorating naturally over the decades since the plate was exposed. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
