The only identification for this negative is the abbreviated title "Jap. mt. troops," taken from a caption card the Bain News Service attached to it rather than from a verified source. Bain's New York agency supplied news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, so a glass plate of this size was likely made for reproduction in print. Without a date or photographer's name, the picture can only be placed in general terms, as a scene of Japanese mountain troops from the years the agency was active.
