The only identifying detail in this record is the name Lambert Murphy, which comes from caption cards and negative labels written by the Bain News Service and is marked as unverified. The image survives as a glass negative no larger than 5 by 7 inches, a format the Bain agency, a New York photo service active in the early twentieth century, used widely for its portraits and news pictures. Because the date is unknown, the sitter's identity and the occasion are best treated as open questions until better documentation turns up.
