An angel, a cluster of lilies and a lamb make up this Easter greeting postcard, a combination that reads at once as resurrection imagery. Easter cards of this kind were a popular way to send good wishes in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when printed postcards were inexpensive and mailed in large numbers. The white lily stands for purity and the empty tomb, while the lamb recalls Christ as the sacrificial Lamb of God, so the design packs several layers of Easter symbolism into a small, pocket-sized card.
