The Victory Liberty Loan poster was printed in Boston by the Forbes Company and designed by illustrator Howard Chandler Christy, whose glamorous, vigorous figures made him one of the most recognized commercial artists of his day. It was issued for the fourth and last of the Liberty Loan drives, held in the spring of 1919, after the armistice ended the fighting but before the United States had fully repaid its war costs. The Liberty Loans were government war bonds sold to ordinary citizens to help finance the war effort, and the campaigns relied heavily on posters like this one to reach people in shops, streets, and public buildings. The "Americans all!" slogan reflects the drive's appeal to national unity across the country's many communities.
