Three of the most celebrated players of the 1920s stand together in this October 1924 portrait, identified in the caption from left to right as George Sisler, Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb. The caption ties the photograph to the World Series, which opened on October 4 that year, but none of the three played in that Fall Classic. The Washington Senators and New York Giants met instead, while Sisler, Ruth and Cobb were with the St. Louis Browns, the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers. Together they show the star hitters who drew crowds across the country during the decade.
