Here the magician Harry Kellar appears in a color lithograph from 1894, with its subject heading listing demons and levitation. The poster was printed by the Strobridge Lithographing Company of Cincinnati and New York, a firm known for the theatrical advertising that filled American streets in that era. Stage magic of the 1890s often drew on the supernatural, and posters like this one promised audiences marvels that seemed to defy explanation, which explains the Halloween association.
