The record places this view at a Manhattan construction site, the Bankers Trust Building on Wall Street, photographed in early June 1911. Its steel frame was rising in the financial district during the years when New York was racing to build taller office towers, and the building would later stand at 14 Wall Street as a headquarters for the bank. Photographs taken during construction like this one capture the scaffolding, derricks, and labor of the work before the finished facade hid it. Viewed today, the picture documents how quickly the skyline of lower Manhattan was changing in the early twentieth century.
