The caption on this glass negative gives only an initial and a surname, "J. Rosenwald," and the attribution is unverified, so the sitter is best read as a likely reference to Julius Rosenwald, the Chicago executive who led Sears, Roebuck and later funded schools for rural Black communities in the South. Bain News Service was a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of people in the news from about 1900 into the early 1930s, and its negatives were often filed with incomplete information. Without a date, viewers should treat the identification as a starting point rather than settled fact.
