Gabriel Fallopius (1523-1562) was an Italian anatomist, and this halftone reproduction of a drawing of him dates from around 1899, when photomechanical processes made it practical to print images like this in books and journals. Fallopius taught anatomy at Padua and Pisa and is remembered for his detailed studies of the skull, the ear and the reproductive organs, including the tubes that bear his name. The record notes that its data come from an old caption card and have not been verified, so the sitter's identification and the drawing's original maker should be treated with some caution.
