The record gives us very little beyond the title, "27th Parade," which points to a parade staged by or featuring the 27th regiment or unit, though the Bain News Service's own labeling is unverified. The image belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress, a body of roughly 40,000 glass negatives made by the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of current events from about 1900 to 1920. Parades in that era drew large crowds and were a common subject for such agencies, so this negative offers a glimpse of civic ceremony in the early twentieth century, even without a confirmed date or location.
