The title, "27th Parade," is the only identifying detail in the record, which does not say which unit, city or occasion it marks, and the date is unrecorded. Bain News Service, the photo agency George Grantham Bain founded in New York, supplied news pictures to newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century, and its collection is best known for scenes from New York City. Military and civic parades were frequent subjects, with marching units, bands and crowds drawing the camera's attention. The image was made on a glass plate, a format common in news photography through the 1910s and into the 1920s.
