Its title promises "the original genuine experiment," and the sheet announces it was published the day it was issued, a claim typical of political broadsides of the 1830s. This large woodcut with letterpress text, about 52 by 77 centimeters, is printed on green paper, and an inscription on the back of this impression says it was probably printed at Hanover. Its subject is the independent treasury plan, which would have kept federal funds apart from private banks. The idea grew out of the fight over the Second Bank of the United States and was not enacted until 1840. Prints like this made a complicated financial dispute easy for voters to follow.
