Kirk's White Cloud Floating Soap is a tall, narrow color poster, about 209 by 73 centimeters, built around a product whose selling point was that it floated, a feature still unusual for bar soap in the 1880s. The record credits the printing to Hughes Litho. Co. of Chicago and dates it to 1888, but those details come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified. Chicago soap makers relied heavily on eye-catching lithographed advertising like this to win over grocery shoppers across the country.
