Easter decorations were a common sight in American homes and shop windows in the early 20th century, and this picture belongs to that tradition of seasonal display. The title alone gives little detail about the specific arrangement, so the scene is best understood through its setting: holiday decorating of the period often mixed paper ornaments, dyed eggs, spring flowers and small handmade figures of rabbits and chicks. Such displays were usually made by families or local merchants for church gatherings, parlors and storefronts. Looking closely at the materials and arrangement can reveal how people marked the season before mass-produced holiday goods became widespread.
