This picture is identified only by the title "Larrmore," which the Library of Congress lists as unverified and taken from notes made by the Bain News Service on the negative or its caption card, so the place or subject it names may be a misspelling or a person's name. Its record gives no date, but it is a glass negative of 5 by 7 inches or smaller, the format the Bain News Service used for news photographs in the early twentieth century. George Grantham Bain founded that New York agency around 1899 to supply pictures of current events, people and places to newspapers. Its negatives now form the George Grantham Bain Collection, a useful record of that period's news.
