Love Is Life" is a painted scene by Alonzo Kimball, reproduced on a postcard issued by the New York firm Reinthal & Newman. Its title states the sentiment outright, in the sentimental manner that made romantic cards so popular. Kimball was an American illustrator whose soft, idealized figures suited the greeting cards that circulated widely in the early 1900s, when a small printed picture was an inexpensive way to send affection. The card format is worth noticing, because it carried a painter's work into ordinary homes that could never have afforded the original.
