This bird's-eye view concentrates on the San Francisco waterfront, where wharves and shipping drove the city's commercial life. C.B. Gifford drew the panorama, and Robinson & Snow of San Francisco published it around 1864, with L. Nagel credited as printer. By then the city had grown well beyond its gold rush beginnings, and tinted views like this one gave residents and visitors a detailed picture of a rapidly expanding port.
