Women practicing bandage application make up the subject of this glass negative, a scene of hands-on first aid training from the early twentieth century. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio in Washington, D.C., produced and preserved thousands of images of the city and its people between about 1910 and 1935, and this view belongs to that body of work. Such training was common during that era, when first aid classes were promoted through organizations like the American Red Cross. The library holds this as a copy negative, a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Faint streaks and blemishes in the glass come from the original coating's natural decay.
