Perkasie, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was a small borough in 1894, shaped by its Mennonite and German-descended farming families and by the railroad that linked the surrounding countryside to Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley. Its streets held churches, schools, stores, and the shops that served farm households, and the town's growth in the late nineteenth century rested on that steady local trade rather than on any single large employer. Residents would have known Perkasie as a quiet, orderly community where civic life centered on the church, the school, and the borough council, and where the rhythms of planting and harvest still set the calendar for many families. The street-by-street drawing of the town records which buildings stood and where, giving a close view of a place that was still largely rural in character at the close of the century.

| Notes | An original bird's-eye view map of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, drawn in 1894. Bird's-eye view maps were drawn by travelling artists who walked a town street by street, sketching every building from an imagined vantage point in the air, then sold the finished lithograph door to door by subscription. Roughly five thousand American towns were recorded this way between the 1860s and the 1920s, and for many of them the panoramic map is the most complete picture of the place that survives.
