Mount Joy, a borough in western Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, served in 1894 as a market and service town for the farms of the surrounding valley. Its economy rested on agriculture, with grain, dairy goods and tobacco moving out of the county, and on the tobacco processing and cigar shops that gave many local families steady work. Rail connections tied the borough to Lancaster and the wider region, letting farmers and merchants reach buyers without long wagon hauls. Residents knew the town for its churches, schools and market days, and for a close-knit community where most people knew one another by name. This map records those streets, shops and rail lines as they stood that year.

| Notes | An original bird's-eye view map of Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, drawn in 1894. Bird's-eye view maps were drawn by travelling artists who walked a town street by street, sketching every building from an imagined vantage point in the air, then sold the finished lithograph door to door by subscription. Roughly five thousand American towns were recorded this way between the 1860s and the 1920s, and for many of them the panoramic map is the most complete picture of the place that survives.
