The poster advertises motion pictures of the July 1899 heavyweight bout between champion Jim Jeffries and Tom Sharkey at Coney Island, filmed by the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company. Biograph's cameras captured the fight, and the films were shown to paying audiences, letting people who had not been ringside see the bout on screen. Posters like this one promoted those screenings and show how quickly prizefighting and the new moving pictures became linked in popular entertainment.
