Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry is the subject here, shown in a 1936 silkscreen poster from the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration. The museum occupies the Palace of Fine Arts, a neoclassical building left over from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Jackson Park, and it opened to the public in 1933 as a hands-on institution for science and industry. Posters like this one were part of the WPA's effort to put artists to work while promoting public cultural sites, and the flat color blocks of silkscreen were a common technique in the program. The date stamp on the back of the board shows it was filed in 1940, years after it was printed.
