Lincoln Park's Grant Monument honors Ulysses S. Grant, the Union general and later president who was born in Ohio and grew up in Illinois. The bronze memorial stands in the park on Chicago's lakefront, a stretch of public green that by the turn of the century drew steady crowds of strollers and visitors. This 8 x 10 inch glass negative was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, which produced large numbers of travel views of American cities and landmarks around 1900 or 1901.
